Etty Hillesum weer thuis in Middelburg (Etty Hillesum Studies, deel 7)
De titel van het zevende deel van de serie Etty Hillesum Studies verwijst naar de opening van het Etty Hillesum Onderzoekscentrum te Middelburg op 1 oktober 2015. Zo is de stad, waar Etty Hillesum op 15 januari 1914 werd geboren, een knooppunt geworden voor het internationale onderzoek naar haar persoon en nagelaten geschriften. De bundel wordt geopend met de toespraak die de Middelburgse burgemeester bij de opening van het centrum hield, gevolgd door een studie over Hillesums taalgebruik: welke stijlmiddelen wendde zij aan? Haar beperkte mogelijkheden om zich te handhaven in een tijd van vervolging en haar wens om kroniekschrijfster van het kamp Westerbork te worden zijn het onderwerp van twee studies, waarin haar confrontatie met het nationaalsocialisme centraal staat. In een volgende bijdrage wordt een vergelijking getrokken tussen Etty Hillesum en de auteur die haar het meeste heeft geïnspireerd: Rainer Maria Rilke, en in een tweede bijdrage de verschillen tussen haar en de Italiaanse schrijver Primo Levi, als het gaat om hun visie op de Sjoa. Twee artikelen handelen over aspecten van Hillesums geheel eigen vorm van religiositeit en de actualiteit daarvan voor het heden. Het biografische onderzoek naar Etty Hillesum, haar familie en haar omgeving levert steeds nieuwe resultaten op, zoals blijkt uit de bijdrage over Spiers verloofde Hertha Levi en die over de Hillesum stamboom. Ook het onderzoek naar het boek ‘Levenskunst’, waarin Etty Hillesum en Henny Tideman eens gevleugelde woorden hebben opgetekend, wordt voortgezet. Een boekbespreking besluit dit deel, waarin opnieuw zeer verschillende aspecten van het wereldwijde Etty Hillesum onderzoek aan de orde komen.

Zwangerschap en obesitas. Handboek voor de zorgverlener
Obesitas komt steeds vaker voor. Dit betekent dat ook almaar meer zwangeren en moeders te kampen hebben met een té hoog gewicht. Dat geeft in de periode voor en tijdens de zwangerschap, de bevalling en de kraamperiode niet alleen meer problemen voor de moeder, maar heeft ook een negatieve invloed op het kind. In deze context spreekt men van een intergenerationeel probleem van obesitas. Preventie van deze chronische aandoening dient te beginnen in de periode vóór de geboorte.
Omdat er de laatste jaren heel wat wetenschappelijk onderzoek is verricht, specifiek bij reproductieve vrouwen met een té hoog gewicht, is het hoogtijd om deze inzichten te bundelen in een overzichtelijk, wetenschappelijk gefundeerd handboek voor de betrokken zorgverleners. Dit eerste Nederlandstalige boek over dit onderwerp bevat bijdragen van (para)medische experts, clinici en onderzoekers. Het bespreekt de zorg en de begeleiding van de zwaarlijvige (obese) vrouw in de reproductieve periode (18-45 jaar). Het is bestemd voor artsen, vroedvrouwen, verpleegkundigen, diëtisten, kinesitherapeuten, psychologen en alle andere begeleiders en hulpverleners die hierbij betrokken zijn.
Annick Bogaerts werkte als vroedvrouw op de materniteit en verloskamer van het Salvatorziekenhuis in Hasselt. Zij studeerde ook medisch-sociale wetenschappen aan de KU Leuven, waar ze promoveerde. Ze is onderzoeker binnen de expertisecel ‘Healthy Living’ van de Hogeschool UC Leuven-Limburg in Hasselt en doctor-assistent aan de KU Leuven en de Universiteit Antwerpen.
Ronald Devlieger, gynaecoloog, is afdelingshoofd feto-maternale geneeskunde bij het UZ Leuven. Hij werkt als clinicus en onderzoeker binnen UZ en KU Leuven en als consulent in het AZ Sint-Augustinus in Wilrijk.

The Drive to Global Citizenship. Motivating people, Mapping public support, Measuring effects of global education
Do we still believe in foreign aid and development education? As governments tend to cut down aid budgets and the public appears to take a more and more sceptical stand, not just the old way of campaigning is under pressure, but also the idea of the North helping the South as such. To materialize the hind-laying value of global solidarity in the present world, a radical re-thinking of the wornout concept of aid is required.
Set against this paradox, this book explores the new notion of global citizenship and the challenges it represents. Self-contained chapters feature coverage of a range of issues: politics, opinion polls, education, the results agenda, private sustainability standards, framing messages for TV-broadcasting and the role of social media. As it is a long road to global citizenship, this book keeps you company for a part of the way.

Mobility Framework and Standard for Teacher Trainees. The Educational Outcomes
The aim of MOST, a three year Comenius 2.1. project, was to develop a European standard of competencies for the beginning teacher. The development of this standard was based on action research by the mobility of teacher trainees for the purpose of teaching practices and a joint evaluation for the recognition of it. Intensive efforts were made to develop a structural framework to facilitate future mobility of student teachers and teacher trainees within Europe. The application of the common system of credits (ECTS) and academic recognition was therefore implemented.
Organising exchange programmes between different partner institutions is an important incentive to develop a shared understanding of the similarities and differences between the school systems of different European countries and to identify the key competencies a beginning teacher should possess to function in a European context.
This volume reflects on the educational outcomes of the project. The theoretical framework behind the project is discussed in a companion volume also published in this series (Issues in European Education Series, N° 6).
