The ‘IRCP Research Series’ is a book series that publishes research output of scholars active in the Institute for International Research on Criminal Policy (IRCP) of Ghent University.

The books that are published in this series are peer reviewed according to a double blind procedure.

Editorial board and the editors
The editorial board of the IRCP Research Series consists of the academic staff (at least on PhD level) of the IRCP research group. The editorial board takes the responsibility for the academic quality of the publication and the organisation of the double blind peer review procedure.

For each publication, the editorial board assigns an editor. This editor is never one of the authors of the manuscript itself, nor the supervisor of one of the authors involved.
The editor selects three external reviewers and sends them the anonymised manuscript for review. Reviewers have published widely within the domain of the manuscript. Well-informed professionals can be eligible for review but at least two out of three reviewers are academics with a PhD.

Based on these reviews, the editor produces an editorial decision and comment that is communicated to the authors of the manuscript without disclosing the identity of the reviewers. When the editorial decision requires “major revisions”, the editor sends the revised version to the reviewers for a second review round.
When the opinions of the reviewers extremely differ, the editorial decision is taken by the editorial board. Members who are involved in the manuscript are excluded from this decision making process.

Review criteria
A review form based on the template used in Crime & Delinquency (A1) is communicated to the reviewers.
